    they are not mutually exclusive. dunno really. i recently read somewhere (can't recall) that shock therapy is used (i think it said in buddhist practice(?)) to snap us out of the world of ideas that gets us all mucked up in the head and living everywhere but the here and now. i think nitrous has the same effect. its a sort of reset button. i like it.
